Additional Voice Communication interoperability improvements

Justice Programs has continued to provide grants to local agencies for mutual aid radio equipment upgrades that are compatible with the WISCOM system.

In 2003, fewer than 5% of the radios used by emergency responders in Wisconsin were able to access the ten most commonly used mutual aid frequencies used to communicate during large-scale emergencies.

Over the past five years, as a result of an investment of over $17 million that helped replace 16,000 radios and reprogram another 16,000 more, that number has increased to nearly 90%.
